First Kiss

So Shayla got her first kiss from someone other than her family.  Isn't this a bit early?

It started like this:  Shayla and her friend Will get in the car after school.  Will tells Shayla that she can play his Star Wars video game, because there is a Princess Leia.  This does not really impress Shayla, and she doesn't respond much to Will.  Will then continues to tell Shayla, "Do you know what? You are as beautiful as a princess.  I really mean it, you are so beautiful that I want to (whispered) kiss you."  Shayla responds back to Will by telling him that he is as handsome as a prince.

Will decided to come over and play at our house after school.  They have lunch together and I make Shayla go wash her face, after she was done with lunch.  Shayla comes out of the bathroom and looks closely at Will's face and tells him he needs to wash his face.  He quickly obeys and Shayla inspects.  His washing was not to her liking, so in he goes to wash up again.  Finally Shayla stands in the hallway with the biggest pucker lips I have ever seen.

(this is a reenactment)

Will just looks at her funny.  He then remembers he told her he wanted to kiss her.  He tells her he will kiss her in the car (in the back seat nonetheless).   They both get in their seats and get their seat belts on, then Will turns and looks at Shayla.  He gets very serious and asks, "Are you sick or anything?"  Shayla responds, "I don't think so."  At this point Will leans across his seat and Shayla across hers, both with megga extended pucker lips, and PRESTO!
It happened!

Of course I was spying from the front seat, and I turn around to back out of the driveway as soon as the kiss happened.  The only problem is, I can't stop laughing.  Shayla's face is classic!  She has stars in her eyes, like I have never seen before.

(another reenactment)

I wish I could have captured her look forever.  She was in L-O-V-E!  She slowly put her hand to her lips and held it there as if she would never feel anything so wonderful in her life, slowly turned her head and looked longingly out the window.  She put on her shy, I'm in love face.
(yep, you guessed it, not the real event)

Her reaction could have put all actresses, everywhere out of business.  Will kept asking me why I was laughing, I couldn't say anything.  Every time I turned to answer him, I would see Shayla's face and start giggling again.  What am I going to do when this child gets older?

They arranged for another kiss on Monday.  We'll have to see what happens next, seeing as both sets if parents have talked to them, stating that at this age, they should probably only be kissing Mommy and Daddy.

Happy Valentine's Day

Shayla loves holidays. She has been planning her Valentine's outfit for weeks. She even wore her outfit to see the doctor for her kindergarten check-up, because his name is Dr. Valentine. She was excited to find out that Cambree had a Valentines outfit too. (You can't see it, but Shayla's sweater has hearts all over it.) Here's hoping you have a Happy Valentine's Day! We hope yours is every bit as sweet as ours.

Reading time

Shayla loves to read! She will sit still and listen to anything you are willing to read to her (except for the Scriptures, but that's a whole other subject.) We have had fun reading chapter books together. Some times though, the reading gets a little long. And we find the perfect photo opportunity.

Of course I woke her up right after I got this picture. As cute as she looks, I'd rather she sleep at night than the middle of the day.

Sundays

We really try to make Sundays a special day. The girls, hopefully, are learning that we dress our very best on Sundays. We always want them to look better on Sunday than any other day, so they know it is different and special to go to church. So we decided Cambree needed to look her best too. So Dad held her and I got out the little curling iron. I think the result was so adorable!

We sure have beautiful girls!

Snow!

I am sick of snow! It has snowed, snowed and snowed. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad if we didn't have a 45 degree angle driveway, but enough already! Even after three days of 50 degree weather, we got hit with another foot last night. I'm talking the wet heavy kind. If it weren't for my awesome neighbors, who helped me shovel out my pathetic driveway, Brian would have had no place to park after his three hour drive home from work.

It seems though, as much as I hate snow Shayla loves it! She can't get enough. She cried when the weather turned warm and her snow was melting. She talks sadly of spring and summer, because there will be no snow. She goes out and plays in it as long as she can and as often as she can. So we decided if she liked it that much maybe Cambree will too. See for yourself the result.

I think it's decided. I am the only one in the family whose sick of the snow.

I want to be just like you!

Anything Shayla does, Cambree thinks is great.
So we put curlers in Shayla's hair and guess what.......

Then Shayla leaves her coloring stuff and guess who is right there to do it to.

She sure is cute! We really can't imagine not having her in our home to make us smile.

It Happened

That's right, it happened... As much as I didn't want it to... As much as I cried about it... Cambree turned, how old?

Yes, one!

We had a great celebration, even though I wasn't excited about losing my baby. Shayla showed Cambree what balloons were all about.

Then we put the presents out. Cambree discovered them and was very interested. The guests hadn't even arrived yet, so she had to wait to open them.

Daddy distracted her by showing her the decorations.

Finally, she got to open her presents. How exciting!

There was no need to worry that she didn't grasp the opening presents idea.
There were plenty of helpers.

I wonder if she knows what she got for her birthday. She'll have to ask her helpers.

Time for cake! Cambree refused to make a mess.
No messy cake shots here.

Maybe she'll get messy when she eats it.

But she's just not sure about what to think of cake.

The verdicts out. She'd rather stay clean. There was no cake eating here.

What was that? You thought that cake looked great! Well, thanks! I actually made it myself. Yes it's true, Kerali, I decorated the cake! I am pretty proud of myself. I'm sure you want a closer look at what a fabulous job I did. Well, I'll not bore you. I'm really not one to brag. Oh... OK, here it is....
