Turn Abouts, Fair Play

When I was younger my parents tortured us by making us spend our summer vacations hiking the Southern Utah National Parks. It was hot, dusty, and boring. We walked and hiked a ton, we were tired and just wanted to go swimming. Even though we did enjoy climbing on rocks and in the dirt, we would have rather been doing something else. Well, fast forward a few too many years and we came up with this marvelous plan to torture our own children with making them hike the National Parks. It was remarkable what memories came flooding back to me as I watched my own children run to rest on the same rocks and logs I rested on as a child. To see them run on the trails, climb on the rocks, and be thrilled at seeing a lizard was just as I remembered from when I was younger. It was great being on this end of things. I was amazed by the beauty of this world and wanted my children to experience the wonders of the creation. I think, even though they complained about the long hikes, being tired, and wanting to go swimming, that all in all it was a successful family vacation. Throw in some cousins, aunt, uncles, and even a grandma and grandpa and you have my memories relived.

I'm not sure what the children think, but I felt it was a successful, fun, memorable family vacation. And worth repeating!
